Hal Dunning joined Barney & Barney in 2001 as Chief Financial Officer (CFO), became a Principal in 2003 and was promoted to Chief Operating Officer (COO) in 2006, still retaining his dual position as CFO. In addition to overseeing Barney & Barney's Accounting Department, as COO Hal has overall responsibility for Human Resources, Facilities, Information Technology, Corporate Communications and Legal Affairs.

Prior to joining Barney & Barney, Hal was the Western Region General Manager and Controller of ADS Environmental Systems. He also worked for Anthony Industries, Inc. (now K2, Inc.) from 1984 to 1994, holding positions as Corporate Controller, General Manager and Executive Vice-President of Operations, and was in public accounting with Ernst & Whinney from 1980 - 1984.

In 2009, Hal was honored with the "Lifetime Achievement Award" at the San Diego Business Journal’s CFO of the Year awards program; Hal was also recognized by them in 2007 as a "CFO of the Year." A member of the Lead San Diego Class of 2008, he was recognized with their Herb Klein Visionary Leadership Award.

Hal chairs the CFO Roundtable and is the Chairman of "Day for Change," a charity started by the CFO Roundtable that serves abused and neglected children. For the past ten years he has been the President of the Board for Walden Family Services, the largest foster family agency in San Diego. Hal has also volunteered at Scripps Memorial Hospital, La Jolla, since 1995 and is a member of Financial Executives International.

Hal obtained his Bachelor of Arts degree from Pomona College and his MBA in accounting and taxation from the University of Southern California.
